Sock manufacturing process — the details that matter

Begin with category, use, construction, material preferences and commercial quantity. A technical pack is helpful, but an annotated reference can also start the conversation. Identify mandatory tests and destination labelling requirements before development.

02 — Develop and sample

Artwork and construction are reviewed together. The sample lets you assess fit, handle, colour and branding on a physical product. Changes should be recorded in one consolidated approval so everyone works from the same version.

03 — Approve bulk production

Confirm the specification, quantities by size and colour, packaging and agreed schedule. Production should proceed against an approved benchmark. Any later design change can affect material requirements and timing.

04 — Finish, inspect and pack

Finishing shapes the final presentation and handle. Inspection checks the product against the agreed criteria. Packaging then brings together pair presentation, care information, barcodes and carton identification.

05 — Prepare the handover

Confirm shipment destination, commercial terms and required documents during quotation. Keep product references and approvals for repeat orders. A complete project record makes the next collection easier to plan.

Define the approval gates

A useful manufacturing plan identifies when a brief is complete, what the sample review covers and which approvals are needed before bulk work proceeds. Record decisions in a clear version of the technical pack. If artwork, packaging or the yarn changes, make the revision visible so an earlier file is not mistaken for the current instruction. The approved benchmark should connect the written dimensions with the physical reference and the relevant colour or artwork files.

Prepare the checks that matter to your order

Inspection requirements should reflect the product and the buyer’s needs. Identify dimensions, appearance, pair matching, packaging accuracy and any agreed material or performance testing. If your company uses a particular inspection method or acceptance standard, discuss it at quotation stage. A generic statement about quality does not replace a defined test or inspection brief. For specialist claims, clarify the required method and supporting documentation before retail approval.

Keep the delivery plan tied to the approved brief

Development, approval, manufacturing and dispatch are separate stages. Share the desired arrival window and destination early, then agree the schedule for the confirmed specification. Changes after approval may affect the plan and should be reviewed explicitly. Shipping arrangements, documentation and carton instructions also belong in the brief. Monthly capacity of one million pairs describes overall manufacturing scale; available production timing is confirmed for the individual order.

Make repeat orders easier to review

Retain the product code, approved sample reference and current packaging artwork. For a repeat inquiry, quote these details and list every change, including quantity, colour allocation, labels or delivery country. A reorder can then be assessed against an established product rather than reconstructed from memory. If a component or requirement has changed since the previous run, agree how the new order will be approved.

Plan your manufacturing brief

Share your intended use, target customer, material preferences, size range and quantity. Minimum orders start at 1,000 pairs; the design, colour and size allocation is confirmed during quotation. Specify your destination market and required testing so the project can be reviewed as a complete product.

Use our manufacturing inquiry form, explore private label production or read the sock tech pack guide. For compliance information see quality and certifications.

For the official explanation of textile harmful-substance testing, see OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. Programme information does not replace reviewing the current certificate and product scope for your order.
